Wexford School of Ballet and Modern Dance

Sinead Reck and Sorcha O’Connor successfully auditioned for Inchicore College of Dance this year.  They have been in full time training since September ’09.

Clare Daly is now studying with Laban Contempory in London. She plans to dance professionally and later teach.

One of the first of the students to go professional was Colette Maguire, Enniscorthy, after she had taken her elementary RAD major exams, she headed to England for two years to complete her teacher training exams - she now runs her own academy in Tralee, Co. Kerry.
Emma Molloy then completed her elementary major exams and was successfully accepted to the Doreen Bird College, London. From there, she danced professionally touring as far as Japan on one occasion and now successfully runs her own Ballet school in London.

Dara Pierce was the next to go, but before she did she won the EBU Scholarship and was chosen from hundreds to represent Ireland in a Eurovision dance spectacular. She was also the first to receive honours in her pre-elementary and elementary Royal Academy ballet examinations in Dublin. Finally, before she left she received the highest bursary ever given by the arts council in Ireland to help her further her talent. She used it wisely being the first Irish girl ever to be accepted into the English National Ballet School in London and then if that had not been a fairytale, the directors took her straight from the school in the English National Ballet Company where she toured for four years under the direction of Derek Deane and many other famous directors. She had also danced with European Ballet Company London & Ballet Ireland here at home. She had then danced in New York. Dara recently finished dancing with the Scottish Ballet and has recently become a full time member of staff of the Wexford School of Ballet and Modern Dance. Miriam Bowe is another pupil to receive honours in a major ballet examination and also the winner of the Royal Academy Sindy scholarship and of three consecutive arts council grants. Both Miriam and Dara won Scholarships to the Kirov School in Moscow.

Another pupil Edel Quinlan, who has been with the school since the tender age of three is now a qualified RAD teacher after completing three years at the Inchincore College Dublin. Edel has danced in Michigan, US on Full Brite Scholarship. She is currently running her own school in Waterford.

The students are well travelled from the United States to Japan to Russia back to London and occasionally home again. But for those who don't get the opportunity - Suzanne tries to make-up simpler ways to reach professionals - a trip to the Point to see a show or a ballet, a West End show or even a Christmas panto in the Gaiety.
